For GNOME 3, the GNOME Project has started from scratch and created a completely new, modern desktop designed for today’s users and technologies.

Gnome 3 Features

Simply beautiful
GNOME’s new desktop takes elegance to a new level. We’ve swept away the clutter and made a simple and easy-to-use desktop, and we’ve made this the most beautiful GNOME desktop ever, with a new visual theme, a refined new font and carefully crafted animations.

An overview at a glance
The activities view provides an easy way to access all your windows and applications. It is also a great way to keep track of all your activities. We have provided several fast and convenient ways to access the activities view, including the activities keyboard key (often known as the Windows key) and the activities hot corner.
Messaging built-in
Communication is an important part of the modern desktop, but it’s a hassle when you have to switch windows to reply to a message. That’s why GNOME 3 will let you continue your conversations without changing focus. The ability to enter a reply straight into messaging notifications makes instant messaging quick and effortless.

Distraction-free computing
GNOME 3 is designed to reduce distraction and interruption and to put you in control. Our new notifications system subtly presents messages and will save them until you are ready for them, and the GNOME 3 panel has been styled so that it is part of the background, not the foreground. These changes allow you to focus on your creative tasks.

Everything at your fingertips
With the new GNOME desktop, everything can be quickly accessed from the keyboard. Press the activities key and search: it’s as simple as that. You’ll love this feature if you’re a user who likes things to happen fast.

Redesigned system settings
Our system settings have been completely redesigned for GNOME 3, making them easier to use than ever before. GNOME 3 also provides a new way to browse your settings, and our settings categories have been reorganised, making it quick and straightforward to find the setting that you want.

And much, much more
[ad#Google Adsense]
GNOME 3 is crammed full of new features. Here are some of the other things that you can look forward to from GNOME 3:
Side-by-side window tiling to make using several windows simple and easy
A redesigned file manager
Redesigned workspaces so you can easily organise your windows
Major changes under the hood to give you a faster, smoother experience
A satisfying experience, whatever kind of computer you use: GNOME 3 will feel right at home on netbooks as well as larger machines

Install GNOME3 on ubuntu 11.04
Open the terminal and run the following commands

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3

From WebUpd8

I don’t know if this happens to everybody or just to a minority of users, but for me, Emerald crashes with a segmentation fault in Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal. I’m definetly not alone because the bug report on Launchpad shows that this bug affects at least 23 other people.

From the above mentioned bug report I’ve discovered a PPA which fixes the Emerald segmentation fault issue so if you want to use Emerald in Ubuntu 11.04, add the PPA and upgrade Emerald:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:malteworld/compiz

If you don’t want to use a PPA, you can also compile the latest Emerald from source – instructions here.

In Ubuntu 11.04 after installing NVIDIA’s or ATI’s video card proprietary driver the graphical boot, managed by Plymouth, reverts to an ugly text-only version. I’ve use StartUp-Manager but not solve yet, but it better then before . I found simple solution from here. There’s a script to get the graphical boot back.

U can di this to using it :
[ad#Google Adsense]

$ cd
$ wget http://www.webalice.it/bernardi82/software/fixplymouth-natty
$ chmod +x fixplymouth-natty
$ ./fixplymouth-natty

HINT: the script will ask you to select a video resolution. I think you’re better off with 1024×768-24, higher resolutions might not work.

NOTE: The script that I’ve described on a previous post works only for Ubuntu 10.04 and Ubuntu 10.10. For the new Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty) there’s an additional configuration to change, so I’ve modified the script in order to do that.

Here’s what happens under the hood: the script installs uvesafb and configures Grub and some parameters for the uvesafb kernel module; finally it rebuilds the initramfs image and updates Grub2. This updated version of the script also removes the vt.handoff=7 parameter from Grub’s configuration, here’s an explanation of what it is.

After you reboot it must be fix.

Google Maps is one of the many applications bundled with the Android platform. In addition to simply using the Maps application, you can also embed it into your own applications and make it do some very cool things. In this article, I will show you how to use Google Maps in your Android applications and how to programmatically perform the following:

Change the views of Google Maps

Obtain the latitude and longitude of locations in Google Maps

Perform geocoding and reverse geocoding

Add markers to Google Maps

Before we start, we must have Google API.

Google API

[ad#Google Adsense]
Still from Android SDK, create a new Android Virtual Device to be used as an emulator that uses a Google API. The way is, click Virtual Device, then click the New button will appear the window “Create New Android Virtual Device” Fill in as shown below, then click Create AVD

New Emulator

To utilize the Google Maps feature, we need the Map API Key, without this we will not be able to display the MAP on Android. These sections are often forgotten, so many are confused, get the Map was not showing.

If u use Windows 7, find debug.keystore on C:\Users\<user>\.android then copy it to C:\.Open Command prompt, then go to this directory on command prompt: C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_23\bin> then type this command :

keytool.exe -list -alias androiddebugkey -keystore "C:\debug.keystore" -storepass android -keypass android

Debug.KeyStore

Now go to http://code.google.com/android/maps-api-signup.html then input fingerprint and generate.

Now lets go to the code :

1. Create new project

New Project

Edit main.xml

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
    android:layout_width="fill_parent"
    android:layout_height="fill_parent">
    <com.google.android.maps.MapView
        android:id="@+id/mapView"
        android:layout_width="fill_parent"
        android:layout_height="fill_parent"
        android:enabled="true"
        android:clickable="true"
        android:apiKey="isi dengan key Google Map API"
        />
</RelativeLayout>

To be able to display a Google Map Map we need to add <uses-library> com.google.android.maps and his <uses-permission> INTERNET through AndroidManifest.xml file

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<manifest xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
      package="com.wawan.googlemap"
      android:versionCode="1"
      android:versionName="1.0">

    <application android:icon="@drawable/icon" android:label="@string/app_name">
        <uses-library android:name="com.google.android.maps" />
        <activity android:name=".ShowGoogleMap"
                  android:label="@string/app_name">
            <intent-filter>
                <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" />
                <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" />
            </intent-filter>
        </activity>

    </application>
    <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET"></uses-permission>
</manifest>

Edit  ShowGoogleMap.java

package com.wawan.googlemap;

import com.google.android.maps.MapActivity;
import android.os.Bundle;

public class ShowGoogleMap extends MapActivity
{
    /** Called when the activity is first created. */
    @Override
    public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState)
    {
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
        setContentView(R.layout.main);
    }

    @Override
    protected boolean isRouteDisplayed() {
        return false;
    }
}

Now Run project, the result will be :

Result Maps

Now let us learn how to make Dynamic ComboBox. We ever meet in one form there are two combobox that interconnected. For example, in a user registration form, we must input country and city were we live, here we will see when we choose a country, the city combobox will change depend what country we choose.

Lets start the code :
1. Create New Project, i created ComboBoxAdvance with 1 activity ShowComboBoxAdvance

2. Edit main.xml

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

		android:layout_width="fill_parent"
		android:layout_height="wrap_content"
		android:drawSelectorOnTop="true" />
</LinearLayout>

3. Edit ShowComboBoxAdvance.java

package com.wawan.comboboxadvance;

import java.util.HashMap;

In order for the city combobox contents in accordance with the selected state, then we need to have a variable that stores the relation of State and the city, here we use a HashMap where the key State Names and Name City into its data

HashMap<String, String []> hash_state = new HashMap<String, String []>();

Now how do to fill the ComboBox City for its content in accordance with the State selected.

private void generateData(){
		hash_state.put("US", new String[] {"Chicago","Los Angeles","Newyork"});
		hash_state.put("Indonesia", new String[] {"Bandung","Jakarta","Surabaya"});
		hash_state.put("Malaysia", new String[] {"Kuala Lumpur","Selangor","Serawak"});
	}

Note the method FillComboCity

private void fillComboCity(String sstate){
		String[] city = null;
		ArrayAdapter<String> aa = null;
		try {
			city = hash_state.get(sstate);
			aa = new ArrayAdapter<String>(this,
					android.R.layout.simple_spinner_item, city);
		} catch (NullPointerException e) {
			aa = new ArrayAdapter<String>(this,
					android.R.layout.simple_spinner_item, new String[] {});
		}
		aa.setDropDownViewResource(android.R.layout.simple_spinner_dropdown_item);
		spin_city.setAdapter(aa);
	}

FillComboCity method called after we choose a State. This is where excellence HashMap, to get the city data we do not need to do a loop as in the Array, we simply use the get method
hash_state.get (sstate);
The method we also perform fillComboCity Exception Handling NullPointerException. if the State selected is not found to produce a Null value. Due to her country is not found then the city must empty the contents of ComboBox.
5. Result.

Because the default is bigger for me and its consume more space in home screen. So we will make textbox to input datepicker and timepicker on android. The clue is when textbox selected it will popup datepicker and timepicker on android, the user can input and throw the value to textbox.
Lets start :
1. Create New project, i will name it DateTimeAdvance
2. Edit main.xml

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
    android:orientation="vertical"
    android:layout_width="fill_parent"
    android:layout_height="fill_parent"    >
<TextView android:text="Date :"
	android:id="@+id/TextView01"
	android:layout_width="wrap_content"
	android:layout_height="wrap_content"/>
<EditText android:text=""
	android:id="@+id/txtDate"
	android:layout_width="fill_parent"
	android:layout_height="wrap_content"/>
<TextView android:text="Time :"

	android:layout_width="wrap_content"
	android:layout_height="wrap_content"/>
<EditText android:text=""
